My cat, Herman, is ill and has fleas.  My roommate brought her mom’s dog to visit last week and shortly thereafter Herman started wheezing and sneezing up a storm.  He kept me up all night because he just wanted to cuddle.  I took him to the vet only to discover that he had a temperature and fleas!  Boy I wish I had said something before she brought the dog over, because it was an expensive bill and Herman was definitely uncomfortable and the whole situation could have been prevented by not exposing him to another animal.  The vet said cats get colds just like people do.  Anyway, everyone needs to think about visiting animals and how it might affect your own pets.  I certainly didn’t think that a little puppy would do any harm, but I’m wishing we had been more careful.  Herman is feeling better now, and I’M glad that we have the flea situation under control, because they are so annoying!

That´s great that Herman´s better. How old is he?? When my husband and I adopted our third cat, our second cat got a minor cold but our first cat, Sanura, who hadn´t really been admitted to the outside practically at all (the diseases/colds out there) and she was really sick….she even ended up sneezing blood because she had broken a blood vessel from sneezing so much!!! I ended up taking a day off of work to stay with her smile My poor baby!!!

I am glad Herman is feeling better. If anyone knows anything about expensive vet bills and sick cats it would be me and it is always good to hear a happy ending. Unfortunately for us, last year we lost a total of three cats which was extremely hard. The happy ending to that is that we found three more little ones to help us heal. Give Herman a rub under the chin for me smile

Herman is so much better today and has been playing around like the little jerk that he always is.  He’s gotten to know about his medicine though, so I keep trying to switch it up about where I give it to him (the first time it was so easy!).
Actually, as I write this he’s half on the bed, half on the window sill trying to chase the light reflecting off of his collar, so I think he’s just fine smile  But, we appreciate the “get wells.”

I’m glad Herman is doing better. We dont like kitties being sick. I dont think he caught it from the dog though. Feline and Canine “colds” aren’t transmitted to each other. But, instead it was probably caused from the stress the cat felt from the dog being there. Upper respiratory infections or URI’s are highly contaigious cat to cat. They usually come about when the cat gets stressed. Such as a new house, new pet, car rides, etc. That’s why sometimes we’ll get a kitty that seems healthy we take it home and a few days later it’s hacking up a storm. So remember when bringing home a new kitty introduce everything slowly. Especially other pets. If you have another cat and you just put them together right away it is likely that a few days after new kitty comes home one of them or both will be sneezing/ coughing. Good Luck!

I hope he’s better now. I hate the feeling when one of my pets are sick.
