I have 4 cats.  We’ve been using Feline Pine for years.  My cats are all neutered or spayed at an early age (ASAP).  I am having a problem with my 2 yr old cat.  He is very fond of me and my youngest child.  He sleeps with me everynight (on my pillow all snuggled up to me) and no problems with spraying my stuff.  In the morning when I get the kids up for school he is totally into my youngest which is wonderful but he has taken to spraying anything and everything that belongs to that child.  Bed, backpack, coat etc.  I am going nuts cleaning and scrubbing everything.  Does anyone have any experience with a technique or a product to stop this?  I have placed an extra litter box outside my sons room but it is not helping.  Right now I have him keeping his bedroom door shut but his things are throughout the house.  HELP!!!

wow..your cat really wants to assert his “ownership” of your son!  I wonder if he’s responding to some hormonal changes in your child? Does your son consume any natural products or play outside near any cat “attractants”  like mint, valerian root or (of course) catnip?  Some cats are attracted to and excited by odd stuff as well. Try exploring that sort of idea.
Have you tried getting one of those things you plug into the wall for cats that spray?
They have a few products of that nature.
If you find an answer to this I’d sure like to know.

My son is 7 so nothing hormonal and as for natural stuff no changes there either.  I have spoken with the vet and we are currently giving him a course of antibiotics for a UTI.  So far so good.  It has been days since he has ‘claimed’ anything.

I’m glad that’s working!  How weird he singled out your son and sprayed instead of peed!
Cats are complex creatures-LOL

Hello, and PLEASE HELP! I’d like some advice on a similar topic. I have two cats - a 5 yr. old female and 7 yr. old male. The female was adopted first and then the male. Both cats are in good health and are well behaved. They are declawed and litter box trained. Sometimes they play and the male chases the female around, and sometimes the female is annoyed by the male. They don’t totally love one another, but they’ve never tried to really harm one another, so I guess they get along well enough. I live in a 2 bedroom, 1 and 1/2 bath condo. The cats used to share one litter box. In the three years that I’ve had my cats, I NEVER used to have any trouble with the use of the litter box - until now. The female is now peeing on the carpet near the litter boxes (when she started doing this I put out a 2nd box, next to the other box). The boxes are in the corner of the spare bedroom of the house, out of the way. I scoop the boxes and clean the area a least twice a day, because I thought this would help my finicky female to use the box. I even tried moving one of the boxes into the bathroom, but no matter what, the male cat will use both boxes, and I’m wondering if the female is peeing on the carpet to “mark” her territory, or in protest or spite for some reason. Note that she pees on the carpet, but will poop in the box, so I KNOW she knows that she is doing wrong when she pees on the carpet. I even switched from the Feline Pine pellet litter to the scoop, because I know she likes the softness of the scoopable kind. I am at my wit’s end with her peeing on the carpet. She has no medical conditions that are causing this, either. Is there anything else I can do to correct this problem? I love my pets and try to take the best care of them, and I don’t know what else to do. And I like to keep a clean house for my family and the pets. Please help! I would appreciate any advice.

I am at the same point.  If this doesn’t stop soon and they are cleared medically they may be getting the boot (which I hate to do).  I am normally a pet owner from the time of adoption to death but the smell is killing me and all the extra work of scrubbing.  I literally scrubbed my son’s mattress for 2 weeks while he slept on an air bed to finally get rid of the smell.  The cat has now moved on to other family member’s things.  I am thinking of looking into the scented plug in things someone mentioned in this post but I don’t know anything about them.  I plan on speaking with my vet later this month when I am there with other pets.  I have also added extra litter boxes which didn’t help.  The cat is on antibiotics for a possible UTI but I haven’t been able to find him for 2 doses now.  The kids can’t even track him down in our house.  BTW my 4 cats are all indoor cats.
