I have been using Feline Pine Clumping for 3 days now…in my opinion it works very well.

BUT…I have 2 litter boxes and 3 cats (lots of traffic) and I have noticed that this product is being tracked all over my carpeting…wherever the cats go so does the Feline Pine.

I have a mat infront of each litter box which gathers a fair amount of litter when the cat finishes his business but there is so much excess being tracked around I find myself having to vacuum it up every day.

Any ideas on how to reduce this problem???

Thanks,
SamboJ

I have the same problem with the regular Feline Pine.  I have two cats and one box.  One doesn’t dig much so what gets one her doesn’t really track but the other one makes sure everything is buried and then some.  The saw-dust gets all over his face and his legs and then he wanders around the house (hard floors) and leaves a little and then gets on the couch and it’s covered.  We keep a sheet over the couch to keep it nice for when people come over.

I love that this brand is natural and flushable and oderless, but the mess is ridiculous.  All I can do is sweep constantly and vacum the stairs and shake out the mat almost daily.  It’s either that or not get the full use of the litter, cause it’s great when it’s still pellets.

I also bought the Feline Pine Pellets product and I was completely dissatisfied…I actually found some of those pellets in my bed!!! HOW UNSANITARY IS THAT???...seriously, I tasted vomit in my mouth when I saw that stuff in my bed.

As far as the mess being rediculous, it REALLY IS REDICULOUS!...I wanted a product that would make my life easier because I hate vacuuming!!!...my litterboxes are just below a window that recieves a lot of sunlight and when I scoop the clumping product it produces so much dust in the air because I can see it all floating around in the sunlight…which also means that I am inhaling this stuff!

Unless there is a more manageable solution I will have to continue my search for a better cat litter product. Too bad because this product clumps up very nicely, no odor and seems to last a lot longer than regular clumping cat litter.

Not very happy over here…nope.

Wow. Sorry It’s not been working out for you. I’ve been using the clumping formula for years and have never had a problem with tracking, let alone runaway pellets.

I also have 2 cats, and they’re big diggers. I have one humongo-sized hooded litterbox, though the last month or so I’ve left the top part off, so it’s really just a deep box right now. The cat room has always been either laundry or bathroom, something with hard floors that are easy to clean and sanitize. I keep a litter mat in front of what used to be the opening for the hooded box, and it catches most of the paw debris. Anything else falls off within about a foot of the box. I’ll admit, it’s a little sawdustier in the catbox room now that I don’t keep the cover on and the cats don’t always step on the mat on the way out, but it’s still negligable and I could solve that pretty easily by getting a bigger mat. Either way, the sawdust doesn’t make it of of the cat room, and I sweep it up before it gets into the tread on my shoes and I’m the one tracking it all over. I don’t have any dusty litterbox mess in the carpets or on my furniture. Cat hair, yes; sawdust, no. And our sofa is chenielle, that stuff latches onto everything!

As for the stuff floating in the air, all litters have dust, some more than others. Personally, I think FP is the least dusty of anything I’ve tried before. I hated clay litter because everytime I poured or scooped I got swallowed by a cloud and felt it stick in my lungs. And while the silica ones weren’t as dusty when scooping out the petrified poo, whenever I poured in a new boxful my lungs would burn all day. Last year I used some silica litter to absorb water out of my carpet after the hurricanes, and even over a week later I had to hold my breath when I entered the room. At least what little stuff you’re breathing in is pine, not corrosive materials! *shudders*

Pellets don’t wander too far from the box unless your kitties happen to like playing with them… and some do! Thankfully mine only dig and paw at them when they’re in the box. At least it was an unused pellet that wandered into the bedroom and not a different tidbit. Although I really don’t like to think about it, our kitties’ paws are all over the box and it’s assorted contents, and even if there’s nothing stuck to them it’s not like they wash up at the sink or use paw sanitizer when they’re thru. And we’ve all seen HOW they clean up after themselves… and yet we still kiss them and let them give us kitty kisses in return. : ) *reaches over to smootch nearest fluffball* What can I say: pets, kids, and babies… they’re all just loveable mess-making machines!

I don’t know what to suggest, other than getting a bigger, deeper, &/or hooded box. And maybe a bigger litter mat. Anyone else using the clumping formula have any ideas?

I have been using Feline Pine for over a year now… the clumping litter not pellets, my cats hated the pellets and then I found the clumping and I love it. A lot of stores don’t carry it in stock, I’ve been lucky to find just a couple in my area and they always seem to be out of stock so when I find it in stock I stock up.

I have 6 cats,  2 litter boxes. One box is huge, the other is average size because I have a 19 year old cat that has arthritis and doesn’t like to step up to high to get in her box. The huge box sits inside my linen closet on the floor on carpet with a cat door entry. Each of them have their own process of using the litter…. one covers everything, one digs so much half of the litter gets thrown out of the box before he even uses it.

I don’t feel that the clumping feline pine is dusty, clay litter is so much worse in my opinion. It does track, but I’ve had the same issues with the clay cat litter. I absolutely hate stepping on those hard pieces and those clay pieces have also made it into my bed, like sleeping on crumbs, yuk.

I’d rather have to vacuum / sweep the feline pine and its healthier for the environment, my cats, and myself.

I was having a problem with my two kittens digging into and kicking the litter all over the box and my bathroom.  I was having to clean the floor and other surfaces every time they went potty.  Then, my husband brought home litter boxes (from Target) that have attachable “lips” that go around the inside of the litter box.  It’s a miracle!!!  No more flying litter or sawdust on my floor!  The lips catch anything that goes flying when they’re trying to cover what they’ve eliminated.  Now, I’m a very happy camper!

I had extensive nasal surgery (for sleep apnea) done in September 2008. Once my nose healed enough and I was able to begin smelling things again, I swear that all I could smell anywhere in my house was the clay litter. I tried every brand on the market, same thing; and silicate-based litter didn’t last long enough with two cats to make it worth the cost.

So next I went to the corn- and wheat-based kitty litters. Better than clay for my nose; but did not seem to “lock down” odors for very long, which meant I had to be vigilant on scooping.

Next I tried “Nature’s Miracle” (I think it’s corn-based?), which works well, but has an odd, fake-pine smell to it, kind of like one of those air freshener trees you put in the car. The smell was a bit too pungent for my poor nose, so I finally started looking at pellet litter.

That’s when I found Feline Pine. I filled one box with straight pellets, and the other box was a mix of clumping brands (non-clay based). I was amazed at how well it sucked up odors, and my cats took to it very well. In fact, my male cat seemed to prefer it to the clumping, but after he took one particularly stinky trip to the pellet box and found he couldn’t cover up his stinky-doo with the pellets, he took to peeing only in the pellet box, and pooping in the clumping litter, which is kind of funny. I’m not sure about my female cat - I think she may alternate between the two boxes for peeing, but both only poop in the clumping box.

I find that when I use straight Feline Pine clumpable, that it tends to track a lot more than if I mix it with something else, so what I’ve found works best in my household is one box that is FP pellets only; the other box is half FP/half Nature’s Miracle. And like everybody here, I find it tracks all over the house, so this is what I try to do to make it minimize trackings:

- One of my cats has long hair so I trim the fur tufts on the bottom of his paws so it’s less likely to catch litter between his toes.

- I use a box with a lid. This makes sure the cats have only one way in/out of the box and cuts down on litter being tossed around (especially with my female cat, who is a *seriously enthusiastic* digger).

- I’ve found that really nubby bath mats (like Ikea’s “Toftbo” mats) work really great to catch the litter, vs. using a towel or similarly flat surface.

My most difficult challenge is both cats like to lay on a spot on the floor near their boxes; it tends to be within “tracking distance” and therefore they tend to roll right into trackings and then carry it elsewhere. The only real solution to this is to vacuum the area around the boxes daily/every other day.

Since I can no longer tolerate clay litters, and I like the fact that this litter is made out of recycled wood scraps, I live with this new inconvenience. If I have to choose between living with a smell that makes me gag (clay litter) vs vacuuming for two minutes every day (not particularly fond of), I’ll take the two minutes of vacuuming.

I have been using the feline pine clumping for about a year.  Everything was fine until the last three months.  The last three boxes have been a different texture than previous ones.  the litter is lighter, fluffier and dustier.  I keep the large covered litter box in my bathtub, with a dish pan in front of the opening. Before there would be just a little litter in the dish pan. Now there is a lot and it is being tracked all over the place (one cat who only gets it on her feet).  The dust is everywhere, on the tub, the sink, the walls, and given the moistness of a bathroom, it gets sticky.  What a mess!  One more box like this, and I will have to go back to clay.  Has any one else had this experience, or noticed a change in the consistency of the litter?

I find that most of the tracking is by me.  I spill alittle when I scoop and I think that is then getting tracked off the rug.  is product is so superior that we may have to search for a better rug or material catcher.  And it has to be big enough.  My litter box has high sides except for the front so I know where they are coming from.  I think we have to be more careful when we shake the pooper scoopeer in our cleaning so we don’t leave any
litter that then gets tracked by the cats.  I have two an american bobtail runt of the litter and another stray who weighs 15 pounds.  They love the stuff and no more order and the actual amount that gets tossed out with the soiled litter is so light.  I recommended it to a friend with a back problem and she loves it.  And it lasts hmmm a long time, too

It happened to me before. Don’t worry too much. They’ll get used to it.

We have 18 cats, and though we loved a lot of things about the FP clumping, the tracking was ridiculous.  We switched gradually to the original pellets, and are very happy with that decision.  Tracking is now reduced by about 90%.  We use mostly the FP litter boxes (still haven’t replaced all of our old ones but intend to), so when the pellets turn to sawdust it sifts down into the bottom section of the boxes where the cats don’t stand in it.  Worth trying?

Wow it must be wonderful to have the space for 18 cats.  in your case i can see why you switched.  but doested the solid waste get mixed in with the pellets and hard to scoop out.  i never heard od a feline pine litter box. where can i get info on that.  I have been able to cut down the amout of tracking by first making sure i scoop and have the bag over the litter pan when I do it so “I” don’t make a pile and walk in it.  i’v also put a litter catcher rug infrony of it and a towel because it takes a while for it to fall off the cats feet. It does take up space but it helps alot.. My litter box has 3 high dsides so they only can come out the front. Either product is great and good for the cat and the environment.I never thought about the cats injesting clay litter from there feet.  i usually clean my litter box twice a day or at least after Cumma poops in it.  hers smell.  i
I don’t however ever empty the whole box but rather just keep adding to it.  I can’t see wasting it and i clean/scoop it enough that nothing is in there long. You could always put the clumping in your garage.  I love carrying the light weight boxes.  I scoop it into a sandwhich bag and toss it is the freezerwith vegetable clippins and food scrapes.  if freezes and ofcourse there is no smell.and it goes out in the trash.  so it doesn’t sit in the trash can.  I have a studio apt. and you’d never know cats are here.the cats also cover their poop better with feline pine clumping.  maybe feline pine could come out with a big litter catcher to put infront of the pan to cut down on tracking and put it on the box to order it.  make it of a material that attracts the litter and sell it real cheap.  it would be a good investment.you said 18 cats.  Do you foster or do rescue?  I feed a cat colony twice a week and crochet cat blankets for the strays up for adoption.  and the blanket goes home with him. had a cat coming to my window for 4 months.  he could see I had cats.  he was definetly a house cat but no one knew who owned him.  after he showed signs of losing weight i feed him for 3 months.  then winter came.  he had always been friendly to me and would ignore my cats and sit on the window sill looking for me. well i got him easily and the group got him spayed and neutered and shots and he got adopted the first day.  I got to met the woman who adopted him.  I called him buddy and thats what they guy called him when he first saw him so they kept the name. The woman always wanted a cat but her brother were allergic.  Now as an adult she got buddy and the group helped her pick up the supplies including a climbing post.  end of story except anybody can help by fostering from a group there are lots of easy ways and the groups need help.  i designed a sketch and turned it into a card and it was a big hit at the fundraising luncheon. I’ll always remember Buddy. I had taken a photo.  Cats don’t mind mistakes so its a great knitting project for the brownies or girl scouts or even school to make the little blankets for the shelter.even the boys get involved.  my shelter director actually went to the school. end of email Gail
