hello i just bought some feline pine and am wondering is a transition ALWAYS required.  in anyones experience, has the been a case where they went straight to pine pellets, and the cats responded positively?

I think at least SOME kind of transition is necessary, if for no other reason than to reinforce to your cats that THIS is what you want them to use to do their business… and not wander around the house looking for the old stuff. Some cats just handle change better than others. For my current brood one one box of ~half and half was enough, they were on straight FP on week 2.  But I had already switched them off different litters a couple of times and they aren’t very picky. They just really like to dig, do I think anything remotely granular in a diggable pile is fair game for them. I had a cat a long time ago that was veeeerrrrry particular and took ~ 2 months to switch from one clay litter to another. It just depends on your feline.

As for the chewing the pellets, my kitties don’t play with their FP that way but at lot do, especially when it’s still new to them. My one cat likes to chew on just about anything though. I just shooed her away from a half-empty spindle of CD-Rs a couple of minutes ago. Why the heck she won’t go play with her rubbery chewy catnip-stuffed mouse instead of a CD spindle I’ll never know.*sigh*

It’s really going to depend on your cat, imo.  I think a younger cat will do much better than an older one, but that doesn’t mean an older one can’t adjust.  If you have a cat that’s a little picky about smells and the quality of litter (like you have to change it often so they don’t go all over your home) you’ll have to try mixing.

I had a really hard time with my older cats when this product came out years ago.  I’m so thrilled to now have changed back to feline pine again ( for composting purposes ) and everyone is so happy with it, especially ME!

I don’t think so. Because it can work properly after transition without any change
