Funny-Face has the strangest way of getting a drink- I have his dishes elevated to his chest level because he is 18 years old and just isn’t as flexible as he was when he was younger, but anyway, he has to circle his water bowl at least four times, then he will stick his face over the bowl and howl like his best friend just died.  He cannot get a drink of water without circling and howling first.  He does have CRF and I am wondering if this is somehow related to that. I check his mouth and throat for sores, but don’t see any.  He also howls at nothing.  I’ve caught him standing between my nightstand and bed, howling at the wall.  I can get him to stop by walking into the room where he is and ask him “whats up?”  Then he chirps at me and follows me around.  Is howling in weird places for no reason a sign for senility in cats?  He isn’t very alert either…I can sneak up behind him without him knowing I’m there.

This was my post…apparently I had an account here that I forgot about. For those who are reading this, I found out that his habits with his water dish was because he was going through kidney failure. I’m not sure what caused that (acting funny with his water - the CRF came from old age) but the vet said it was from CRF.  I lost his brother to the same thing. Funny-Face was put to sleep June 9, 2008 because he developed other problems that stole his quality of life. He had pancreatitis and a re-occuring bladder infection (related to an inoperable tumor).  The tumor made it so he felt like he had to go to the bathroom every couple of minutes and he wasn’t getting any sleep because of it. The pancreatitis made him throw up so violently, he was vomiting blood when we went for the last trip to the vet.  I miss him so much but at the same time, I am happy he is reunited with his brother.  When Tux passed away, Funny-Face was never the same without him.
